Just before you start off searching for fishing kayaks for sale you have to do some study and be sure you know what you might be looking for as there are various different options offered.

Kayaks come in diverse versions, every one built to suit a specific activity. When seeking to obtain one you'll want to be aware of these variations so that you purchase 1 with specific features suited to you.

The primary different in between fishing kayaks and other sorts is that the fishing ones are wider. This really is simply because the stability with the boat is governed by its width and as stability is essential if you fish the boats are made wider.

Other principal aspects to consider are the speed with the boat and how straightforward it's to maneuver. If you're planning on fishing in places that take time to obtain to then you could want a quicker boat, which indicates a longer boat as length governs speed. Nevertheless the additional length will mean that it really is not as straightforward to maneuver so it could be trickier to obtain around in narrow areas.

One more factor to consider is what, if any, adaptations you might desire to make inside the future. As an example do you would like room so you can add additional rod holders if required. Should you feel you might want to make adaptations you have to acquire some thing that can be adapted.

It's worth taking your time to make sure you make the right choice about the type of kayak you want to buy. In case you are a beginner or are not certain what you will need then ask for some advice from a professional.

An excellent kayak seller ought to always be happy to help you make the proper option as it's not in their interest not to. Soon after all, if you purchase your first one from them, and are happy with it, you might be a lot more likely to return when the time comes to purchase a brand new one.

The common inflatable kayak review will offer you specs and reword the brochure. With sufficient study any individual can write a review. What you would like is an individual who knows what it feels like to climb in, hunker into position, and paddle using the best.

When you have data offered by someone who has extensive information in both the hardshell and blow up versions with the traditional kayak, you've located information worth sorting out. While there are lots of distinctive aspects with the lightweight inflatable sport boat, probably the most notable capabilities is how simply it stores properly out of view.

These little adventure bound boats are built from high quality supplies. Hypalon, which can be a challenging rubber like material which is derived from neoprene is generally used in the manufacturing of the inflatable version.

You certainly want Hypalon simply because the material can stand as much as the typical events that will take place when kayaking. You can find, of course, other points to consider. White water kayakers have discovered the blow up version to be more comfortable. You also want it to have the ability to withstand typical everyday exposure to common water experiences.

One of the unusual aspects of getting the inflatable over the rigid is remembering to take additional safety gear. Even though all the standard safety gear standards apply do not forget to pack a effective and sturdy foot/hand pump in addition to a speedy fix kit. You cannot rely on the look of the water to know whether or not you will have an accident even though you're out on the water. Observation can help you decide many things, but not running into a submerged log. A quick emergency repair kit will probably be required.

You'll find other repair kits also, but few work well in the course of an emergency. You definitely don't desire to be two miles from shore trying to figure out the way to patch a hole and maintain it dry. Quick emergency kits function properly for water based fixes even though a lot more extensive kits are very good for land based repairs.

In case you like the smooth feel with the harder shell and also the simple turning radius you will not be terribly disappointed in a nicely equipped soft model. The smooth ride is distinct than the rigid version but it is also good. Once you develop a sense of how the kayak will respond it's extremely simple to create your personal adjustments and get into the flow.

The single greatest drawback with the soft sided little sport boat (aside from poking a hole in it) is that it really is quite simply affected by wind. The sides are generally high adequate to generate additional drafting and this can in reality turn into a difficulty speedily if the wind kicks up.

Utilizing an inflatable kayak evaluation to determine which of the a lot of models and price ranges will function inside your way of life is a fantastic method to get in touch with all kinds of adventures. Whenever you notice that you are no longer concerned with traveling from 1 region to an additional with an expensive kayak attached to the roof of your car, new concerns more than safety are far more most likely to be on your mind. Fortunately, safety is also the priority of those that cautiously developed these versions to assist each and every beginner turn out to be the expert that they actually desire to be.

The only way you'll know for sure is to sit in them and paddle them yourself. Even if someone your height and weight says they fit in a kayak doesn't mean you will. Different people have different body types, inseams, flexibility, and preference as to whether they want to be snug or loose in the kayak. For bigger guys, choice of footwear can make a difference (I'm your size and mostly use low-profile socks with a very thin sole and fit in a lot more boats that way).

There's the comfort aspect and then there's the issue of whether a given kayak will float you. The models you're considering-- Equinox, Walden, and Pelican-- have stated weight limits of 250, 300, and 275 lbs. Respectively. Without having tried them, I'd say 250-275 lbs. Could be cutting it close if you're planning on carrying a lot of gear with you (for instance, for an overnight trip). On the other hand, one of my favorite boats is marketed as "suitable for smaller paddlers" so you'd really have to try them out.

No matter which boat you buy, to assure your enjoyment make sure you get a good paddle (not one of those cheap heavy $20 aluminum and plastic things) and make sure that it is at least 7' long (longer is better in paddles, too -- less effort and you won't bang your knuckles on the gunwales). Also get a good life vest that is cut short enough to be comfortable paddling (NOT an orange "Mae West" type or water-skiing vest). The MTI brand "Orleans" model vest is nice (you can find them on-line for around $40, maybe less in your size) and cut short in back for comfort in a sit-on-top. You can get a decent paddle for around $50 or $60, maybe less late in the summer. Then, even if you decide you want a higher performance boat later on, you will still have a paddle and flotation vest that you can use with any kayak.

Brad Selers answers:

The Pelican might do ok on calm rivers and lakes, but I would not recommend it for whitewater (Class II and above). I've tried sitting in a Pelican before, and due to its large cockpit size and shape, I wasn't able to hook my knees and thighs under the deck of the boat. Being able to do this is important when taking a kayak through whitewater. Having your knees under the deck lets you use them to tilt the boat up on edge, which is essential when entering and exiting a strong current. It also helps you regain balance if the kayak starts to tip, and is necessary if you want to learn to roll. In addition, the large cockpit presents a problem if you don't have a spray skirt since water can easily splash up and flood the boat.

If you're doing rapids, I'd recommend getting a kayak specifically for whitewater. There is a huge market for used whitewater kayaks, and it should be easy to find a used one in great shape for under $500. See the following answer for a little bit on the types of whitewater kayaks:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090420192037AAoHiP3

If you are going to take the kayak on calm water, too, you could go with a pure river-running kayak since this will have a fair amount of speed (as far as whitewater kayaks go).

I have a Pyranha Burn that I bought used in excellent condition that I'm very happy with. Other common popular models you might be able to find used would be the Wavesport Diesel and Dagger Mamba.

Hopefully you can find clubs or shops nearby that sell used boats, or maybe your local craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org/) is fairly active. Ebay is another option, though I don't like the hassle of having to have a boat shipped (not to mention not being able to try it out or even sit in it).

For just starting Pelicans are great! My brother has an 8ft sit-in and I have a 10ft sit in. They are pretty stable and are very good if you want something cheap. Sit on tops are easier for fishing I hear, but you should have no problem just paddling around in one, but I've never used one. For a new one if you want to spend a bunch of money old town is the way to go, but it's very expensive.

Bellingham has the honor of being in one of the Pacific Northwest's best kayaking areas. Surrounded by waters teeming with marine mammals from otter families to whale pods and islands filled with geological, archeological and natural beauties Bellingham is a kayak enthusiast's dream. Let's look at 5 places no kayaker visiting the Bellingham area could afford to miss.

Bellingham Bay - Our own bay offers some of the best short-trip kayaking in the area. When the weather is favorable, the Bay offers sunsets of sublime qualities, bathing the sky in a palate of hues almost unimaginable. From bright reds and oranges, to subtler shades of pinks and purples, leading into the dark indigo of night, sunset on Bellingham Bay is only more beautiful when experienced from the water itself. Before the sun goes down, though, you'll most likely have the opportunity to take in some of the earthier beauties - bald eagles overhead, loons paddling by, herons fishing for their dinners, and seals splashing and playing. Bellingham Bay is known for its calmer winds and tides, too, making it an ideal kayaking experience for the novice and lesser-experienced paddler. The Bay makes a great "putting in" spot for short excursions to Chuckanut Bay, Samish Bay, and Lummi Island.

Chuckanut Bay - Located just south of Bellingham, about an hours paddle from Fairhaven on a fairly good day, Chuckanut Bay offers the kayaker a trip back in time, through a Neolithic landscape. The wind and waves have carved and sculpted the sandstone into fantastic formations. It's never the same trip twice, as the tide levels, angel and quality of the sunlight all serve to change the looks of the sandstone shoreline. The sandstone swirls and curls, dips into honeycombs and caves. Great cylindrical "trunks" that are properly called "concretions" show through the stone. Once widely believed to be fossilized tree trunks, they are naturally occurring, formed by water flowing through the sandstone, depositing calcium carbonate in its wake. Birds flourish among the rock formations, changing too, with the seasons. The colder, wetter winter months see flocks of migratory birds nesting there, while summer paddlers can be treated to flocks of locals, swooping and swirling overhead. Chuckanut Bay is home to Chuckanut Island. The island is uninhabited, owned by the Nature Conservancy, and home to a roughly kept trail, 240 year old fir trees, an eagle's nest or two and a group of black oystercatchers that live on an islet off the shore. It makes a good spot for a picnic lunch and stretching the legs.

Orcas Island - Orcas Island is the largest and most spectacular of the San Juan Islands. Accessible by the San Juan Island Commuter ferry from Bellingham daily during the summer months, Orcas Island has a lot to offer, on the water and off. The scattered small villages that dot the island offer unique dining and overnight accommodations, as well as opportunities for shopping and other entertainment. The scattered nature of Orcas Island means that there is a peaceful, less-hurried, natural aspect to the island's atmosphere. From the water, one can experience the thrill of paddling with the whales that give the island its name, as pods of orcas call the area home. Porpoise, otters and seals can be found here, too, as well as many, many species of birds and other wildlife. Watch closely along the shore and you could just spot a deer family watching you from the woods.

Yellow Island - Located off the southern coast of Orcas Island, between Orcas, Shaw and San Juan Islands, tiny, uninhabited Yellow Island is a nature lover's paradise. Owned and maintained by the Washington State Nature Conservancy, Yellow Island is home to over 50 species of wildflowers. The island is also home to the only cactus native to western Washington, the brittle prickly pear cactus. With no native grazing animals, Yellow Island's vegetation is allowed to flourish naturally, carpeting it in a glorious riot of color every Spring and Summer. Offshore, pods of orcas and Minke whales are often seen. California and Stellar sea lions call the islands windswept, wave beaten shorelines home. Bald eagles can often be spotted perching in the trees overhead. Harbor seals give birth on the island's east spit, while using the west spit for sunbathing. Hummingbirds, songbirds, harlequin ducks and oystercatchers all abound on Yellow Island. The only land mammals commonly seen on the island are mink and otter. Yellow Island's 11 acres offer the paddler a unique place to picnic or rest, while serving up a nature-lover's feast.

Barkley Sound, Vancouver, Canada - You've got to head north to get to Barkley Bay and its unique Broken Group Islands. The Broken Group's are over 100 small islands, islets and rocky outcrops. The islands offer the best of the west coast well within protected, calm waters. The sheltered nature of Barkley Sound makes it ideal for novice or inexperienced kayakers, as well as a relaxing paddle for those with more experience. As part of the Pacific Rim National Park, the Sound hosts 7 designated camping areas, as well as ferry service to an old whaling station, Sechart. Sechart makes a great putting in spot for the novice paddler. Accommodations are non-existent, though, so unless you are fully prepared to really rough it, some pre-trip training may be in order. One of the appeals of the Broken Group Islands to kayakers is the chance to paddle to remote and desolate areas without leaving the confines of the Park. The islands teem with lagoons, blowholes, sandbars, arches and secluded anchorages. The Islands have been home to the native Nuu-chah-nulth people for thousands of years. There are about 100 historically significant spots within the Broken Group, from middens to stone fish traps, giving the amateur archeologist or history buff an added bonus to the trip. Snorkeling, fishing, tide pooling, and beachcombing can ensure that the time you spend out of your kayak is time well spent, too. When you want to paddle away from it all, but stay close to home, Barkley Sound is the perfect place to go!

The Bellingham area of the Pacific Northwest offers many unique, not-to-missed opportunities, whether novice or long-time paddler. With suitable conditions in some areas 3 seasons out of the year, Bellingham may just be Paradise every kayaker hopes to find.

Another answer suggest using one of the private parking lots across from the airport and that may be your best option. The lots are fenced, not open to the public, and customers are taken to/from their vehicle in a shuttle van. Examples are Park 'N Fly and US Park.

Another option might be to store the gear & kayaks. For example:

Will a "Long-Wheelbase Pod Boat" cruise as calmly as any long boat?

Sorry for the weird terms, but I believe I'm in the process of re-inventing the water vehicle here out of necessity to re-engineer around some crazy legislation. Here's the story:

I need to find a way of building a twelve-meter boat without using all the material that's normally necessary for it so that I'll be allowed to do 10 knots inside a harbour here (strangely, only boats of that length are allowed to go that fast). It's supposed to be an economical commuter boat for two people, and I hope to power it with 2HP only.

And here's the crazy idea: I'll take three kayaks, arrange them in a triangular footprint, 12 meters apart back to front, and 3 meters width-wise. That gives me a 12 meter, floating structure on the water without having to fill all of it with material.

But my worry is: How would that cruise? We're talking half-meter seas at most, usually none. Would that wiggle and squeak and feel like going down a ski track on a mattress? And if so, would it matter?

Thx!

temporary white spots on front teeth

Ok, so I noticed something weird and I was hoping someone could explain it...

On days when the weather is cold and I talk a lot outside, I notice that my mouth starts to feel dry, particularly my two front teeth
Later when I go look in the mirror, I see white spots on them, more towards the bottom and edges (usually not near the gum line)

Like today, I went kayaking with some friends, and it wasnt cold, but I was talking a lot, laughing, some wind, not a lot of liquid drinking, and I had that feeling again...and sure enough, I go home and see that same spotting....
However, they go away the next day and I think brushing my teeth after seeing the spots helps by making them feel not as dry

Can anyone explain this? I tried looking it up, but most ?s were talking about long term, but this happens to me once in awhile and for a short time...but it happens a lot, and is quite annoying

Most likely what you are experiencing is some dehydration of the tooth surface. This is most often happens with the use of whitening products and is, like you said, temporary. Cold air is very dry (hence static in when it is cold out) and that would explain why it happens in the cold or perhaps if you are talking alot outside. I am wondering if you are taking any medications because many have the side effect of a dry mouth (less saliva, less wet teeth). My other thought was whether or not you sleep with your mouth open at night (aka a "mouth breather") because you would be having a lack of saliva coating the teeth while you sleep as well. Mouth breathing is often seen with allergies or nasal blockages.

That would be my best estimation. I like to hear you are brushing often and trying to floss often. You might consider an over the counter fluoride rinse before bed as that will help remineralize the teeth. Mouth breathers and medications cause less saliva and usually an increased rate of cavities.

Hope that helps,

Brad Selers answers:

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn't get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn't slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calorie, bad calorie" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck! Hope this helps!!!

Where can I park and put in a kayak near Egmont, BC (Sechelt Peninsula)?

I am thinking about doing a kayak trip leaving from the north end of the highway on the Sechelt Peninsula. I looked around there once and Egmont is a tiny town; Earl's Cove is nothing more than the ferry terminal. I don't remember anywhere to park long term and I also didn't see where I would put kayaks in the water.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Free or as close to free as possible is of course appreciated, but also it's okay if you know any place that charges for parking and/or boat launch.

There's a public boat launch in Egmont, Brandwynne Rd. There's a marina, Backeddy. Couldn't find out about fees, you might have to email to find out.

If you are a water lover, it's possible that kayaking is your favorite sport. Of course, you can't go out in your kayak without the right paddle. There are different categories of kayak paddles available today, each one specializing in a particular area. Different kayak paddles are meant for different types of kayaks. The best will obviously depend on the type of kayak you have and the paddle you have chosen. It entirely depends on the user. Based on the various aspects that determine the preference, such as length, material, weight and the blade, you must select a paddle that has been ideally made for your kayak.

Kayaking is a sport that everyone can try, as nothing much needs to be done to master the activity. However, the sport does demand a bit of sincerity and alertness in order to prevent dangers in the water. Choosing a paddle and then learning how to use one will automatically help a person in mastering the art.

The choice of kayak paddles depends largely on the design and the length of the kayak. As there are different types of kayaks available on the market today, there are a similar number of paddles too, if not more. As stated earlier, it would be the blade, the length, the shape of the blade, the shaft and the material that will influence the choice of a perfect paddle. All these factors will make a lot of difference to a kayaking experience.

The blade of a kayak paddle is one of the crucial factors that help in determining the difference between two paddles. There are different types of blades in terms of its shape and size. Whether you want a long, short, narrow or a wide blade; spooned or feathered or an un-feathered blade will make a difference to the experience you will have. These shapes definitely have a meaning and will affect your kayaking experience. However, there are other advantages as well as disadvantages of these shapes and it depends on the choice of an individual.

The length of the paddle is another crucial factor as well as the shaft. You can choose long or short length paddles with net shafts or straight shafts, all depending on your choice.

Different materials are used for making paddles and it usually the budget that decides which material you will choose. Plastic, graphite, fiberglass or aluminum, you can choose any of these materials for you paddle based on your need and budget.

Once you've done your research and selected the proper paddle for you and your kayak, a simple suggestion is to purchase an extra. You never know when you may lose the grip on your trust paddle in the middle of a trip. And, of course, without a paddle, it can be difficult to lose. Because of this, we always suggest keeping a spare in the kayak.

As paddles are very important for your kayak, you cannot take risks to settle for sub-standard ones. Hence, make the best choice and enjoy kayaking.
